The French Embassy in Uganda has announced applications for the 2026–2027 Bourses Locales – Licence Scholarship Programme, offering financial support to outstanding Ugandan students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in French Language Studies at recognized universities in Uganda.

The scholarship is aimed at motivated students who demonstrate both academic merit and financial need. Through this initiative, the French Embassy seeks to strengthen academic cooperation between Uganda and France while promoting the study of the French language across the country.

Applications must be submitted by 15 July 2026.

Scholarship Supports Undergraduate French Language Studies

The Bourses Locales programme forms part of the French Embassy’s broader commitment to supporting higher education and expanding opportunities for students interested in French language education.

The scholarship is specifically intended for students enrolling in undergraduate French Language Studies programmes at accredited Ugandan universities.

By providing financial assistance, the programme aims to reduce financial barriers to higher education while encouraging the development of skilled graduates with strong French language proficiency.

Scholarship Based on Merit and Financial Need

The 2026–2027 Local Scholarship Programme adopts a dual selection approach that considers both academic achievement and financial circumstances.

Applicants are expected to demonstrate:

  • Commitment to pursuing French Language Studies.

Eligibility Information Required During Application

Applicants will be required to provide personal and academic information through the official application form.

Required information includes:

  • Full name as it appears on the National Identification Card.
  • Email address.
  • Telephone number.
  • Date of birth.
  • Intended bachelor’s degree title.
  • Name of the recognized Ugandan university where admission has been sought.
  • Full Advanced Level (A-Level) subject combination.
  • Year of A-Level completion.
  • Current status, including:
    • Student
    • Employed
    • Unemployed
    • Other

Applicants are encouraged to ensure that all information submitted is accurate and complete.

Required Supporting Documents

Candidates must upload all supporting documents as one PDF file named using the format:

Name-Surname_2026_Licence.pdf

The application package should include:

  • A copy of a valid Ugandan National Identification Card.
  • A recommendation letter (optional but strongly encouraged).
  • A motivation or cover letter of no more than one page explaining:
    • Interest in studying French.
    • Career aspirations.
    • How the scholarship supports long-term goals.
  • A copy of the Uganda Advanced Level Certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • A curriculum vitae not exceeding one page.
  • Documents demonstrating financial need, which may include:
    • Previous scholarship records.
    • Payslips.
    • Personal bank statements.
    • Parents’ or guardians’ financial documents.

Applicants who have not yet received admission to a recognized Ugandan university may submit their Letter of Admission later, once it becomes available.

Application Deadline

The French Embassy in Uganda has set the application deadline for 15 July 2026.

Prospective applicants are advised to prepare their documents well in advance to avoid last-minute technical issues and ensure that all required materials are submitted correctly.

Only complete applications that meet the programme requirements are expected to proceed through the selection process.
