Search for Common Ground (Search) is inviting applications for a Communications Intern position in Brussels, Belgium, offering recent graduates an opportunity to gain practical experience in communications, peacebuilding, international development and cross-regional programming.

Key Responsibilities
The Communications Intern will support a broad range of communications and programme-related activities.
Key responsibilities will include contributing to the creation of newsletters, social media content and web materials. The intern will also research and collect information for documentation, briefings and presentations.
The role includes supporting translation and proofreading between French and English, making strong bilingual communication skills particularly important.
The intern will also assist with event preparation, including logistical and procurement processes. They may attend programme meetings and strategic planning sessions, take notes and help document discussions.
Another important responsibility will be researching and monitoring European news and media outlets to identify relevant developments and information.
The successful candidate will also gather information from activities, conversations with colleagues, reports, websites and other sources and use the material to draft success stories highlighting programme achievements and impact.
Additional responsibilities include updating monitoring tools and providing general administrative support to the communications and programme teams.
Skills and Qualifications
Applicants should have completed a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, journalism, marketing or a related field.
A good understanding of, or demonstrated interest in, international relations, development cooperation or peacebuilding is also required.
Strong language skills are an important requirement. Candidates should have good working proficiency in English and fluency in French, with strong written communication skills in both languages.
The organisation is also seeking someone with an eye for creative detail and the technical ability to transform ideas into compelling visual communications.
Previous volunteering or other experience in communications or a related area would be considered an asset. Basic experience with graphic design is also desirable.
Beyond academic qualifications, applicants should demonstrate strong analytical, writing and editing abilities. The role requires someone who can manage multiple tasks and deadlines, prioritise responsibilities and work effectively with colleagues from different backgrounds.
A self-starting, flexible and detail-oriented approach will also be important.
Internship Contract and Salary
The Communications Intern position is expected to be full-time for six months, although alternative arrangements may be discussed during the recruitment process.
The internship will operate under Belgium’s Convention d’Immersion Professionnelle (CIP) or Beroepsinlevingsstage framework, which applies to internships for recent graduates.
The selected candidate will receive EUR 1,116.90 per month for a full-time internship.
Because the position is governed by the relevant Belgian internship framework, applicants must have completed their studies and have the legal right to live and work in Belgium. This includes citizens of the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland.
Location and Working Conditions
The internship will be based in Brussels, Belgium, within the organisation’s usual office environment.
The position is listed as hybrid, but the organisation currently requires employees to spend at least two days per week in the office.
