UN Women is inviting applications for a Communication and Events Intern on Ending Violence Against Women (EVAW) in Bangkok, Thailand. The full-time internship offers an opportunity to gain practical experience in communications, event coordination, advocacy, stakeholder engagement and programme support within the United Nations system.
The internship is based at the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) and has an initial duration of four months. The successful intern will support activities focused on ending violence against women, including preparations for the SVRI Forum 2026, the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, International Migrants Day activities and other initiatives led by the EVAW team.
The application deadline is 11 September 2026.
About the UN Women Internship
UN Women works globally to eliminate discrimination against women and girls, empower women and advance gender equality. Ending violence against women is a key priority within the organisation’s strategic agenda and is an important area of work for its Asia-Pacific Regional Office.
The internship provides an opportunity for an emerging professional to contribute to this work while gaining experience in a multicultural UN environment.
The selected intern will work under the overall supervision of the Regional Programme Specialist on Ending Violence against Women and provide administrative, communications, event-management and information-management support.
Support for SVRI Forum 2026
One of the major responsibilities of the intern will be supporting UN Women’s participation in the SVRI Forum 2026, scheduled to take place from 5–9 October 2026 in Bangkok.
The SVRI Forum is a major international research conference focused on violence against women, violence against children and other forms of gender-based violence. It brings together researchers, practitioners, survivors, policymakers, funders and activists from around the world.
The intern will help coordinate logistical arrangements, registration, invitations, schedules, event materials, meetings, presentations and communications.
The role may also involve liaising with partners, speakers, service providers, venues and the SVRI Secretariat.
UN Women notes that support for the SVRI Forum will be office-based and will not necessarily include attendance at the Forum itself.
16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence
The intern will also support UN Women’s activities during the annual 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign.
The global campaign runs from 25 November to 10 December, linking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women with Human Rights Day.
For 2026, the campaign theme is “Ensure justice, protect survivors, end impunity.”
Responsibilities may include supporting events, developing communications materials, preparing social media content, assisting with outreach and helping coordinate campaign activities both in Bangkok and remotely.
International Migrants Day Activities
Another area of responsibility will involve supporting activities around International Migrants Day, observed annually on 18 December.
The internship description highlights the increasingly complex environment surrounding migration, including conflict, climate-related displacement and economic pressures.
A major regional event is expected to take place on 9–10 December, providing another opportunity for the intern to contribute to event coordination, communications and programme support.
Key Responsibilities
The Communication and Events Intern will undertake a range of responsibilities, including:
- Supporting event planning and logistics
- Coordinating participant registration and invitations
- Preparing meeting materials and briefing packs
- Taking meeting notes and preparing summaries
- Supporting outreach emails and announcements
- Developing social media and website content

- Supporting data collection and information management
- Organising digital files and programme documentation

The position is therefore suited to candidates interested in combining communications, events, advocacy, gender equality and international development.

UN Women is looking for candidates with strong writing, critical analysis and communication skills, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, is required.
Knowledge of issues related to ending violence against women is also a key functional competency.
The successful intern should be proactive, willing to ask questions, capable of taking initiative and able to meet tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality work.
UN Women also highlights the importance of integrity, professionalism, respect for diversity, gender sensitivity, accountability, creative problem-solving, inclusive collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
Internship Benefits and Learning Opportunities
The internship is designed to provide practical exposure to the work of a major United Nations entity.
By completing the internship, the successful candidate is expected to gain greater understanding of UN Women’s advocacy and communications work, as well as knowledge of gender equality and efforts to end violence against women.
The intern will also develop practical experience in event coordination, stakeholder engagement, communications, information management and programme implementation.
Working alongside colleagues in a multicultural environment can provide valuable professional exposure for individuals considering careers in international development, communications, gender equality, human rights or the United Nations system.
