Afrifounders has opened applications for the Afrifounders Graduate Trainee Programme 2026, an intensive six-month career development programme designed to help Nigerian graduates transition from university into professional careers.
The programme combines Mini MBA training, practical business immersion, and a competitive pathway to a paid internship within the Afrifounders ecosystem. It is designed for Nigerian graduates who are currently serving under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) or have recently completed their service.
Applications are free, and candidates are assessed on merit throughout the programme. Applications close on 5 September 2026 at 11:59 PM WAT.
Programme Overview
The Afrifounders Graduate Trainee Programme is structured around practical learning rather than classroom-based theory alone. Participants first develop core business knowledge before applying what they have learned within real, operating businesses.
The six-month programme consists of five major stages:
- Weeks 1–5: Intensive Mini MBA training.
- Weeks 6–8: Business immersion inside operating Afrifounders businesses.
- End of Month 2: Competitive selection for paid internships.
- Months 3–6: Four-month paid internship for selected participants.
- End of Month 6: Potential pathway to full-time employment for the strongest interns.
The programme requires a full-time commitment and is designed for graduates who are ready to work in a demanding, execution-focused environment.
Mini MBA Training
During the first five weeks, trainees receive intensive training in essential business fundamentals. The programme covers areas including strategy, finance, operations, communication, and problem-solving.
Rather than focusing exclusively on theoretical concepts, the training incorporates real business cases to help participants understand how commercial decisions are made and implemented.
This initial phase is intended to provide graduates with a practical foundation that they can apply during the subsequent business immersion stage.
Business Immersion
Weeks six to eight place trainees inside real Afrifounders businesses, where they gain exposure to actual teams, customers, operations, and business challenges.
The immersion phase enables participants to move from learning business concepts to applying them in practical settings. Trainees may encounter problems involving operations, growth, finance, technology, customer experience, or other aspects of running a business.
The programme emphasises that this is not a simulation. Participants are expected to engage with real operating environments and demonstrate their ability to learn, adapt, execute, and contribute.
Competitive Paid Internship
Participation in the first two months does not automatically lead to a paid internship.
At the end of the second month, the strongest participants are selected on merit to continue into the four-month internship stage. Those selected will undertake paid, hands-on work within the Afrifounders ecosystem during months three through six.
The internship provides an opportunity for high-performing graduates to gain practical professional experience while working alongside established teams.
Because internship places are competitive, applicants should understand that completing the Mini MBA and immersion stages does not guarantee selection.
Potential Full-Time Employment
The programme also provides a potential pathway to employment. At the end of the six-month programme, the strongest interns may receive offers for full-time roles within the Afrifounders ecosystem.
However, full-time employment is not guaranteed. Candidates must demonstrate strong performance throughout the programme and internship to be considered for potential employment opportunities.
Eligibility Requirements
The programme has four core eligibility requirements. Applicants must:
- Be a Nigerian graduate.
- Be currently serving NYSC or have recently completed NYSC.
- Be available to commit full-time for the entire six-month programme.
- Submit an application before the deadline.
The programme is intended for graduates who want more than a certificate and are interested in developing practical business and professional skills.
Areas of Exposure
Participants may gain exposure to several functional areas across the Afrifounders ecosystem. These include:
- Business Operations
- Growth and Marketing
- Finance
- Product and Technology
- Customer Experience
Specific placements are not guaranteed, and exposure will depend on the needs of the participating businesses and the trainee’s performance.
Facilitators and Mentors
The programme is supported by experienced founders, executives, entrepreneurs, and business professionals with backgrounds spanning finance, technology, operations, entrepreneurship, customer service, product management, and venture building.
Facilitators include Temitayo Diadem Adegoke, a venture architect and serial entrepreneur with 15 years of experience in enterprise software and business consulting; Adekunle Adewole, Managing Director of Opticom Finance Ltd, with 26 years of banking and finance experience; and Oyinlola Osundina, Chairman of Honeywealth Group Canada, with more than 25 years of experience across finance, technology, and business.
Other programme contributors include Tosin Adegoke, Seun Abimbola, Abiodun Folawiyo, Ayodeji Agboola, and Oluwakorede Asuni, bringing additional expertise in operations, entrepreneurship, business coaching, startup development, product management, and business analysis.
Selection Process
The application process consists of five stages:
- Online application: Candidates register and submit their applications.
- Eligibility review: Applications are assessed against the programme’s requirements.
- Aptitude and workplace-readiness assessment: Eligible applicants complete a timed, automatically graded assessment with one attempt.
- Two-minute video submission: Candidates who pass the assessment submit a short video explaining why they should be admitted.
- Final selection: Applications, assessment results, and video submissions are considered together before final decisions are communicated.
There is no interview stage in the selection process.
Important Dates
Application deadline: 5 September 2026 at 11:59 PM WAT
Programme start: To be announced and confirmed to selected applicants
Candidates are encouraged to apply before the deadline rather than waiting until the final day.
Important Programme Conditions
The Mini MBA training and business immersion stages are unpaid. Only participants selected for the internship stage receive payment.
Selection for the paid internship is competitive, and completing the initial stages does not guarantee progression. Similarly, completing the four-month internship does not guarantee a full-time employment offer.
The programme offers Nigerian graduates an opportunity to combine structured business education with practical exposure and potentially transition into paid professional experience and longer-term employment.
Interested candidates can submit applications through the official Afrifounders Graduate Trainee Programme application portal.
