About the Program Coordinator, AI Initiative Role
The Pulitzer Center is seeking an organized and mission-driven professional to support the expanding activities of its AI Initiative.
The Program Coordinator will play an important operational role by managing communications, coordinating training programmes, supporting grantees and fellows and helping ensure that AI-focused journalism and education initiatives run effectively.
The position is part of the AI Accountability Network and includes responsibilities connected to the AI Spotlight Series, a biweekly AI newsletter, grants and fellowships.
As the network continues to grow, the successful candidate will work closely with AI editors, the AI Spotlight Series coordinator and operations teams. The role also involves collaboration with internal and external partners located across different parts of the world.
While the position is primarily administrative, the Pulitzer Center also values experimentation and creativity.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will support several important areas of the Pulitzer Center’s AI programming.
AI Newsletter Coordination
The Program Coordinator will help coordinate the production of the organization’s biweekly AI newsletter.
Responsibilities include identifying relevant stories and authors, sourcing written content and supporting the editorial workflow. The coordinator will also help schedule writers, set production targets and track relevant performance metrics.
This aspect of the role may suit candidates with experience in editorial coordination, newsletters, digital communications or content management.
AI Spotlight Series and Training Coordination
A major part of the role involves supporting the AI Spotlight Series.
The successful candidate will work with external contractors and support activities such as scheduling, event coordination, identifying coaches, arranging translators, developing regional partnerships for promotion and providing technical support.
The role also involves:
- Supporting community-building initiatives.
- Identifying in-person training opportunities.
- Coordinating event planning.
- Managing applications for training sessions.
- Reviewing applications and selecting candidates.
- Liaising with coaches, videographers and other contractors.
- Supporting the development of the online curriculum.
- Coordinating content and design updates to the programme website.

Supporting Grants, Fellows and Global Programmes
The Program Coordinator will also provide important administrative support across the AI Editorial Programme.
Responsibilities include processing paperwork for approved reporting projects, scheduling payments, arranging travel insurance, tracking deliverables and maintaining project records.
The successful candidate will support processes involving coaches, fellows, grantees and external partners. They will help track documentation, troubleshoot issues and coordinate programme-related payments in line with legal agreements and required procedures.
The role also includes tracking programme impact and developing metrics to support decision-making.
Additional responsibilities include supporting communications and promotional activities, contributing data and drafting content for funder communications and reports, and helping organize the participation of AI team members and grantees at conferences and other events.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have at least five years of experience supporting administrative and programmatic activities for distributed teams.
The Pulitzer Center is also looking for candidates with an interest in or knowledge of technology’s impact on society, algorithmic accountability and related issues.

- Experience in or an understanding of AI in journalism and media.
