The Changemakers initiative supports leaders working in protection, peacebuilding and safety across different conflict-affected environments.
The programme provides participants with tools and opportunities to integrate Unarmed Civilian Protection (UCP) approaches into their work while encouraging meaningful connections and collaboration among people working in different contexts.
One of the major components of the initiative is a Foundational Training on UCP, scheduled to take place in Nairobi in November 2026. Participants will also develop and receive mentorship for UCP-inspired initiatives supported through micro-grants.
The Communications Consultant will play an important role in documenting and communicating the programme’s impact, stories and lessons learned.
What will the Communications Consultant do?
The successful consultant will support the development and implementation of a communications approach for the Changemakers programme.
Communications strategy
The consultant will prepare a communications plan and develop written and audiovisual materials for the programme. This includes social media content and other communications products created in collaboration with programme leadership.
The consultant will also serve as the communications focal point for the Changemakers cohort, helping participants understand the communications outputs expected from them.
Working with the broader Nonviolent Peaceforce communications team, the consultant will ensure that Changemakers content connects effectively with the organization’s wider programme of work.
Humanitarian storytelling and content creation
A major component of the role will take place during the Nairobi training.
The consultant will provide on-site communications leadership and document the programme through photography, film, interviews and other content-gathering activities.
The consultant will interview Changemakers to capture their experiences, individual stories and collective achievements. These stories will then be transformed into compelling communications materials, including:
- Human-interest stories
- Blogs
- Social media posts
- Project briefs
- Talking points
- Visibility materials
- Photography and video content
Because the work involves communities and people in potentially vulnerable situations, the consultant must follow appropriate safeguarding and communications ethics. Informed consent will be required before conducting in-depth interviews.

The role also includes visual communications and reporting support.
The consultant may be asked to design:
- Flyers
- Posters
- One-page documents
- Infographics
- Fact sheets
- Digital communications materials
- Programme reporting products
The consultant will work with programme and communications colleagues to draft, design, translate where necessary, review and finalize materials.
Strong attention to detail will be important because the consultant will also be expected to manage versions, sign-offs and delivery timelines while ensuring that final products are accurate, accessible and appropriate for their intended audiences.
