About the Communications Officer Role
Reporting to the Strategic Partnerships Manager, the Communications Officer will lead the development and implementation of strategic communications while supervising communications interns, volunteers, and content support personnel.
The role combines digital communications, editorial production, media relations, brand management, and humanitarian storytelling. Regular travel to NIA programme locations across Kenya will be required to document field activities and community impact.
Key Responsibilities
The Communications Officer will be responsible for developing engaging communications that strengthen NIA’s visibility and support organizational growth.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Supporting the implementation of NIA’s communications strategy
- Producing stories, newsletters, articles, press releases, briefs, and infographics
- Documenting programme achievements and community success stories
- Managing the organization’s website and digital communication channels
- Planning and monitoring social media content using analytics tools
- Coordinating media engagement, interviews, and press inquiries
- Producing donor and partner visibility materials that meet branding requirements
- Leading the development of the Annual Report and institutional publications
- Identifying strategic opportunities to strengthen NIA’s public profile nationally and internationally
The position also requires close collaboration with programme and MEAL teams to capture evidence of impact and translate complex development work into compelling narratives.
Eligibility Criteria
Nawiri Impact Africa is seeking an experienced communications professional with strong editorial, digital, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Applicants should possess:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, Development Communication, Marketing, or a related field
- A minimum of three years of professional experience in communications, media, public relations, or donor communications
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Strong interviewing, storytelling, editing, and presentation skills
- Experience managing websites, content management systems, and social media platforms
- Knowledge of digital analytics and multimedia content production
- Strong interpersonal skills for engaging communities, government, donors, partners, and media
Experience within the humanitarian, development, or faith-based sector will be highly advantageous, while proficiency in Kiswahili is considered an added benefit.
