Girl Effect India Content Writer Consultancy: Request for Proposal – Apply by 28 August 2026

Girl Effect India is inviting experienced creative content writers to submit proposals for a consultancy assignment focused on developing engaging, youth-centred content for a large-scale programme designed to empower adolescent girls and young women. The selected consultant will work alongside a dedicated content team to create accessible, relatable and behaviour-change-focused learning materials for diverse audiences across India.

The consultancy is expected to begin on 10 September 2026 and will run for approximately four to five months. The engagement will be based on a daily-rate, timeline-driven arrangement.

About Girl Effect

Girl Effect is an international non-profit organisation that develops media and content designed to help adolescent girls access information, build confidence and make informed decisions about their health, education, relationships and livelihoods. The organisation reaches more than 50 million people and uses digital and traditional media to create safe, trusted spaces where girls can access relevant information and support.

Its youth-focused brands operate across Africa and Asia through platforms including social media, television, radio, print, chatbots and community-based initiatives. In India, Girl Effect applies its expertise in behaviour change, media and girl-centred design to help adolescent girls and young women recognise opportunities, make informed choices and influence positive change in their communities.

Scope of the Consultancy

The selected content writer will develop a broad range of multimedia and interactive learning content for adolescent girls and young women. The content will need to be engaging, culturally relevant, inclusive and accessible across different social, cultural and literacy contexts.

Key outputs may include multimedia scripts, animations, videos, audio content, chatbot conversations, interactive exercises, games, worksheets, quizzes, role plays, simulations and reflection activities. The consultant will also prepare facilitator scripts, discussion prompts, speaking notes, activity instructions, FAQs and practical guidance for frontline facilitators.

Content will initially be developed in English before being adapted into regional languages, including Hindi, Marathi and Telugu. The writing must therefore be structured to support accurate translation while preserving tone, meaning, cultural relevance and the intended learner experience.

Key Responsibilities

The consultant will be responsible for developing compelling and relatable stories, scenarios, case studies and practical examples that communicate key concepts effectively. They will collaborate closely with graphic designers, multimedia specialists and other content professionals to ensure that written materials complement visual storytelling and digital learning experiences.

The role will also involve participating in co-creation workshops, design sprints, user testing and content-testing exercises. The consultant will revise materials based on feedback and ensure that all outputs remain technically accurate, inclusive, safeguarding-sensitive and aligned with programme objectives.

Content may need to be adapted for different age groups, literacy levels, delivery platforms and implementation environments. Particular attention will be given to ensuring that content remains conversational, youth-friendly and appropriate for frontline facilitators and participants.

Candidate Profile

The ideal consultant will be a conversational writer and creative thinker with substantial experience developing content for youth audiences. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to work with subject-matter experts and translate complex information into clear, engaging and audience-appropriate materials.

Experience in behaviour change, learning-focused content development or topics relevant to adolescent girls and young women will be highly advantageous. A demonstrated commitment to improving opportunities and outcomes for girls and young women will also be valued.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have a minimum of 5–6 years of professional writing or related experience, together with strong knowledge of content strategy and content development. Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, research, time-management and organisational skills are required.

Candidates must have strong communication skills in English and Hindi and be capable of simplifying complex concepts for girls and young women. Experience working within multicultural and international teams is important, as is sensitivity to cultural differences and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-changing environment.

Proposal Requirements

Interested consultants must submit separate technical and financial proposals.

The technical proposal should explain the candidate’s understanding of the assignment, demonstrate why they are well placed to undertake the work, include relevant credentials or a CV, provide clickable examples of previous work and include three contactable professional references.

The financial proposal should provide a detailed budget in Indian Rupees (INR), including proposed daily and monthly rates. Financial proposals will only be considered after the technical evaluation and for applicants whose technical submissions are deemed qualified and responsive.

Evaluation and Application Deadline

Technical proposals will account for 70% of the overall evaluation, including professional experience and qualifications, relevant previous assignments, geographical experience in India, understanding of the terms of reference and professional references. The financial proposal will account for the remaining 30%, based on value for money and the proposed budget.

Applications should be submitted by email using the subject line “Content Writer-August 2026” to suppliers@girleffect.org, devanshi.yadav@girleffect.org by 28 August 2026.

Safeguarding and Equal Opportunity

The successful consultant may be required to undergo safeguarding checks and will be expected to comply with Girl Effect’s safeguarding policies. The organisation maintains zero tolerance for violence against children, beneficiaries and staff.

Girl Effect is committed to equal opportunity and welcomes individuals and organisations from diverse professional, academic and cultural backgrounds. Applicants should also ensure that they understand their tax obligations under the applicable local legislation.
