PILnet: The Global Network for Public Interest Law is seeking an experienced Branding & Strategic Communications Consultant to help strengthen its global brand and communications strategy. About the Consultancy
The Branding & Strategic Communications Consultant will work closely with the Director of Communications and Events and the Co-Executive Directors to refresh PILnet’s brand identity and strategic communications approach.
This senior advisory role is intended for a highly experienced branding and communications professional who understands how to position mission-driven organizations within the nonprofit and public interest sectors. The consultant will play a critical role in ensuring that PILnet’s messaging, visual identity, and communications effectively resonate with donors, nonprofit partners, legal professionals, and the broader public.
The consultancy is fully remote, although applicants should be able to work hours that overlap with Eastern Time (ET) and Central European Time (CET) / West Africa Time (WAT).
Key Responsibilities
The consultancy is divided into two major deliverable packages that will be completed throughout the engagement.
Brand Strategy and Identity
Beginning in September 2026, the consultant will focus on strengthening PILnet’s overall brand strategy by:
- Conducting a comprehensive brand audit to evaluate current positioning, messaging consistency, and visual identity.
- Refreshing and refining the organization’s brand narrative to better reflect its mission, values, and global impact.
- Updating existing brand guidelines to ensure consistency across digital platforms, printed materials, and events.
- Supporting implementation of the refreshed brand strategy by aligning visual assets, logos, typography, and colour palettes.
- Assisting in standardising messaging across key communication channels, including:
- Website content.
- Annual reports.
- Social media platforms.
- Fundraising campaigns.
Internal Support and Capacity Building
From October 2026 onwards, the consultant will also strengthen internal branding capacity by:
- Serving as a strategic advisor to the Director of Communications and Events.
- Providing expert guidance on branding and communications decisions.
- Developing a practical brand toolkit for staff and board members.
- Facilitating a branding workshop to help align internal organisational culture with external brand messaging.
Required Qualifications
PILnet is seeking an experienced communications professional with a demonstrated record of delivering successful branding initiatives within the nonprofit sector.
Applicants should possess:
- A minimum of eight years of professional experience in strategic communications and brand development.
- At least three years of nonprofit communications experience.
- Demonstrated success leading branding projects for mission-driven, nonprofit, or public interest organisations.
- A portfolio showcasing before-and-after examples of branding projects previously led.
- Client references from nonprofit organisations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Additional language skills, while advantageous, are not mandatory.
- Strong organisational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
- The ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
