Applications for the Max Planck Society ARTEMIS Mentorship Programme 2026 are now open. The ARTEMIS Mentorship Programme of the Max Planck Society aims to build a partnership which fosters career goals through exchange of experience, networking and interpersonal relationship. This amongst many is what the Max Planck Society’s mentorship programme offers to Partners at MPIs and Fellows at African universities and research institutions.
The programme aims for interested mentees (graduates or doctoral candidates) at African universities and research institutes who are looking for an exchange of ideas on how to advance their studies and/or scientific career. With the support of the Max Planck mentors, the mentees are given the opportunity to shape their career path through networking, gaining scientific knowledge and international experience while enhancing their personal and professional skills in order to define and realize their career goals.
Benefits
- A one-year collaboration for up to forty five (45) mentor-mentee-pairs.
- Online training for the successful mentee and mentor to prepare them for the tasks of the mentoring year and effective communication.
- Sufficient funding for a 4-week research stay of the mentee at the Max Planck Institute of their respective mentor.
- Reimbursement of visa and health insurance costs during the research stay at the Max Planck Institute according to MPG rules (present all receipts prior to the research stay – reimbursement will be made during the stay at the Max Planck Institute)

Eligibility
- Open to graduates, doctorate and early career researchers;
- They should be based in Africa;
- Mentees should have the ability and willingness to take up new tasks and challenges;
- International passport (with a minimum of 6 months validity) or a valid means of identification;
- Good command of the English language or where applicable, a proof of English language proficiency (e.g. IELTS minimum of 6.5 or other equivalent) as the entire Mentoring will be conducted in English;
- Applicant must be enrolled in a recognized university;
- Applicant must provide a proof of enrollment.
