UN Women is inviting applications for a Regional Programme Officer on Ending Violence against Women to support regional gender-based violence prevention programmes in Asia and the Pacific. The position is an international consultancy opportunity based in Bangkok, Thailand, with an initial contract duration of 12 months and a part-time workload of 80%.

About the Assignment
The assignment sits within UN Women’s Ending Violence against Women (EVAW) Section, which works to prevent and eliminate violence against women through evidence-based approaches, policy development, prevention, social norms change, survivor-centred services, safe public spaces and support for women’s rights organisations.
The Regional Programme Officer will contribute specifically to the UN Joint Programme on Prevention of Gender-Based Violence in Southeast Asia, implemented by UN Women and UNFPA. UN Women serves as the Convening Agent for the programme, which was developed in partnership with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Southeast Asia Gender-based Violence Prevention Platform.
Key Responsibilities
The consultant will support the implementation of the Joint Programme and related regional GBV prevention initiatives in accordance with approved workplans, results frameworks, donor agreements and UN Women policies.
Key responsibilities include coordinating with UNFPA, UN agencies, UN Women country offices, implementing partners and regional stakeholders. The officer will also help organise regional and sub-regional meetings, consultations, learning exchanges and events.
A significant part of the role involves monitoring, evaluation and reporting. The consultant will track programme indicators and results, consolidate information from country offices and partners, analyse narrative and quantitative inputs and contribute to quarterly, annual and donor reports.
The position will also involve drafting progress reports, results summaries, briefing notes and presentations while documenting lessons learned, challenges and promising practices.
Knowledge Management and Evidence
The Regional Programme Officer will contribute to the development and quality assurance of knowledge products relating to GBV prevention. These may include briefs, guidance notes, concept notes, research and evaluation reports and other learning products.
The consultant will also support webinars, online dialogues, regional learning events and cross-country knowledge exchanges.
Another responsibility will be ensuring that programme documentation is properly archived and accessible in line with UN Women knowledge-management requirements.
Partnerships and Advocacy
The consultant will support engagement with UN entities, regional mechanisms, civil society organisations, research institutions and other stakeholders working on gender-based violence prevention.
The role will also contribute to the preparation of advocacy and communications materials, including donor briefs, concept notes, presentations, talking points and web content.
The consultant will help document advocacy and communications results, including outreach and stakeholder engagement metrics.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in social work, social sciences, public health, international development, international law, gender studies or a related discipline.
A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted instead of an advanced degree.
Candidates must have at least five years of professional experience in programme implementation, monitoring and evaluation, reporting and work relating to ending violence against women and girls or gender-based violence.
Experience in VAW/GBV programming within development or humanitarian settings in Southeast Asia is an advantage. Experience in GBV prevention, international settings, concept-note development, donor reporting and partnership management will also strengthen an application.
Skills and Competencies
UN Women is seeking candidates with strong interpersonal, communication, planning and organisational skills.
Applicants should demonstrate knowledge of inter-agency processes and civil society engagement related to ending violence against women in the Asia-Pacific context. Strong drafting, editing and presentation abilities are required, together with experience organising large inter-agency or inter-organisational meetings.
The assignment also requires skills in data research, statistical analysis and qualitative and quantitative monitoring.
Fluency in English, including strong written English communication skills, is required.
Location, Working Arrangement and Travel
The assignment is based at the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok, Thailand.
The consultant will work part-time at 80%, equivalent to four days per week, for an initial period of 12 months.
If the selected consultant is not currently based in Bangkok, UN Women will cover the cost of the most economical economy-class airfare to the duty station at the beginning of the assignment and return travel to the consultant’s home country at its conclusion, subject to UN Women’s travel rules.
Official travel may also be required during the assignment.
