Deadline: May 31, 2026
Applications are open for the Barbara Huber Scholarship Program 2027. The scholarships are awarded for a research stay at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law for a period of two to a maximum of six months.
The scholarship honors the life and work of Barbara Huber. Barbara Huber was an outstanding legal scholar and recognized specialist in English law and the broader common law legal system. From today’s perspective, a career as a professor and director at a Max Planck Institute would have been an obvious option, but in 1962, when she had finished her doctoral thesis, the situation for female scholars was different. After studying in Freiburg, Munich, and Berlin, Barbara Huber wrote her doctoral thesis on the criminalization of attempt in German and American law. Immediately afterwards, in 1962, she commenced employment at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law.
