ACT Alliance Humanitarian Communications Officer 2026: Remote Communications Job in Jordan or Kenya

ACT Alliance is inviting applications for a Humanitarian Communications Officer position that can be based in Amman, Jordan, or Nairobi, Kenya. The role offers an opportunity for an experienced communications professional to contribute to humanitarian response, digital storytelling, fundraising and donor engagement across ACT Alliance’s global network.

The position focuses heavily on communications for the Rapid Response Fund (RRF) and ACT Appeals, with the successful candidate expected to develop compelling content that demonstrates the impact of humanitarian funding and the leadership of local and national organisations.

The vacancy is particularly suited to communications professionals with at least five years of relevant experience, strong digital and social media skills, and experience working with humanitarian, NGO or international organisations.

The Communications Officer will develop and implement communication and visibility activities supporting ACT Appeals and the Rapid Response Fund.

The role has several key objectives, including increasing understanding of ACT Alliance’s humanitarian response, communicating the impact of its members’ work, supporting fundraising and donor engagement, and strengthening the visibility of local and national ACT members.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for producing high-quality, timely and compelling digital content while ensuring that humanitarian funding and results are communicated transparently.

An important part of the position will be helping position ACT Alliance’s humanitarian financing mechanisms as credible, effective and locally led.

Key Responsibilities

The position is divided primarily between communication for the Rapid Response Fund and ACT Appeals.

Rapid Response Fund Communications

Approximately 50% of the role will focus on RRF communication and visibility. The successful candidate will lead day-to-day communications related to the fund and develop content packages around supported humanitarian responses.

These may include:

  • Human-interest and impact stories
  • Case studies
  • Photography and visual content
  • Short videos and reels
  • Social media content
  • Website stories
  • Donor-facing updates
  • Infographics and other digital materials

The Communications Officer will work directly with ACT members, forums and Regional Representatives to collect stories, photographs, quotations and other relevant information.

The role will also involve documenting RRF results and impact, supporting communications around funding decisions and portfolio achievements, and developing content demonstrating how funding produces concrete results for crisis-affected communities.

ACT Appeals Communications

The remaining 50% of the role will focus on communications and visibility for ACT Alliance humanitarian Appeals.

Responsibilities include supporting Appeal launches, situation updates, human-interest stories, impact stories, donor updates, social media campaigns, website content, newsletters, videos and multimedia products.

The Officer will coordinate with ACT members to collect timely programme information and results while helping avoid duplication of communication efforts during major humanitarian responses.

The position will also translate technical humanitarian information into accessible and compelling communications and support fundraising campaigns linked to ACT Appeals.

Fundraising and Donor Engagement

Communications will have a direct connection to fundraising and resource mobilisation.

The successful candidate will develop stories that demonstrate the impact and added value of funding and translate programme results into materials suitable for donor engagement.

Other responsibilities include preparing donor presentations, fundraising campaigns, briefs and digital materials, as well as contributing communication inputs to donor proposals and fundraising materials.

The role will therefore suit professionals who understand how effective storytelling can strengthen both public engagement and donor confidence.

Digital Media and Storytelling

The vacancy places a strong emphasis on digital communications and multimedia production.

The Communications Officer will produce content for ACT Alliance’s digital platforms and adapt social media content for different audiences and channels. The position also requires experience creating short-form video, reels, visual assets, infographics and data-driven communication products.

The successful candidate will monitor digital engagement and use analytics to improve communication performance while identifying emerging digital trends relevant to humanitarian work.

Storytelling must remain ethical and people-centred. The Officer will be expected to place affected people and local responders at the centre of humanitarian communication, obtain appropriate informed consent and avoid portraying affected communities solely as victims.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants should have a university degree in communications, journalism, humanitarian affairs, international development, public relations or a related field.

The position requires at least five years of relevant communications experience, preferably within humanitarian, NGO, faith-based or international network settings.

Candidates should demonstrate experience in:

  • Photography, video and short-form content
  • Communicating complex information to different audiences
  • Working with NGOs, humanitarian or international organisations
  • Managing multiple stakeholders and competing priorities
