Key Responsibilities
The role covers several important areas. The successful candidate will manage projects involving the implementation of mechatronics, automation and CNC technologies in vocational training centres.
Responsibilities include providing authoritative technical advice, adapting established policies and approaches to project requirements, supervising support staff or junior professionals, and solving complex technical problems.
The expert will also manage a portfolio involving the procurement, installation and maintenance of CNC equipment and automation systems while maintaining relationships with clients, educational institutions and industry partners.
Another major component is curriculum development and training. The successful candidate will develop or adapt curricula for mechatronics, automation and CNC technologies, ensuring that programmes reflect industry standards and local requirements.
They will also conduct training for instructors and students covering the operation, maintenance and programming of CNC machines and automation systems. Supporting educational institutions in establishing or upgrading technical laboratories and evaluating training effectiveness will also form part of the role.
Stakeholder Engagement
Partnership development is another key element of the position. The Technical Expert will establish relationships with industry partners, educational institutions and government agencies.
The role also involves facilitating collaboration between industry and academia so that vocational training remains relevant to labour-market requirements. The successful candidate may organise workshops, seminars and conferences and represent UNOPS at technical meetings relating to mechatronics, automation and CNC technologies.
Who Can Apply?
This opportunity is aimed at experienced professionals with strong technical and engineering backgrounds.
Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, together with seven years of relevant experience. Alternatively, an engineering or master’s degree or equivalent in a related field with five years of relevant experience is required.
Candidates must have at least seven years of experience in mechatronics, automation and CNC technologies, including project management, curriculum development and technical training. Experience in vocational training and technical education is also required, as is experience in the Middle East and North Africa region.
Experience with international development projects or UN agencies, as well as stakeholder engagement and partnership development, is considered desirable.
Language Requirements
Strong communication skills are essential. Fluent English and fluent Arabic are required, while intermediate French is desirable.
