This is an executive-level opportunity for a senior marketing and communications leader who can drive brand strategy, public relations, campaigns, stakeholder engagement and revenue-generating partnerships.
The position is offered on a three-year fixed-term contract and is based at the organisation’s offices in Rosebank, South Africa. The successful candidate will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and play a key role in shaping Proudly South African’s marketing and communications strategy.
The role offers an annual remuneration package of between R1.7 million and R1.9 million total cost to company, making it a senior leadership opportunity for professionals with extensive experience in strategic marketing, communications and brand management.

About the Role
The Chief Officer: Marketing and Communications will provide strategic leadership across Proudly South African’s marketing, communications and sector-specific initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the organisation’s brand remains visible, relevant and competitive while aligning marketing activities with broader organisational objectives.
The role requires an experienced executive who can combine strategic thinking with practical campaign execution, stakeholder management, media relations, event leadership and financial oversight.
The Chief Officer will also participate in executive-level business planning and provide market intelligence and insights to support organisational decision-making.
Strategic Leadership and Business Planning
A major responsibility of the Chief Officer will be developing and directing the overarching marketing and communications strategy of Proudly South African.
The successful candidate will work closely with executive leadership to ensure that marketing priorities support the organisation’s wider goals. This will include monitoring industry trends, analysing market data and identifying changes in the operating environment that could influence the organisation’s strategy.
The role will therefore require strong commercial awareness, strategic planning abilities and an understanding of how marketing and communications can contribute to organisational growth and influence.
Campaign Management and Brand Execution
The Chief Officer will oversee the development and implementation of marketing campaigns across multiple platforms and channels.
Responsibilities will include campaign planning, evaluating briefs, managing agencies, overseeing creative production and monitoring campaign performance. The successful candidate will also be responsible for strengthening digital communication infrastructure to enable the organisation to engage members, attract prospective members and distribute regular content.
The Chief Officer will oversee the organisation’s internal brand management and design studio, ensuring that marketing materials are produced efficiently while maintaining consistent brand standards.
Public Relations and Stakeholder Engagement
The successful candidate will lead Proudly South African’s public relations function and work to strengthen the organisation’s visibility across print, broadcast and digital media.
This includes developing positive relationships with media organisations and ensuring that the organisation achieves strong and favourable media coverage.
The Chief Officer will also be expected to nurture relationships with existing and prospective members and ensure that customer relationship management systems are maintained effectively.
As a senior representative of the organisation, the successful candidate will participate in public speaking engagements, industry forums, conferences and other important events.
Events and Sponsorships
The Chief Officer will champion the planning and execution of Proudly South African’s flagship events, exhibitions and other major organisational activities.
An important component of the role will involve identifying and securing corporate sponsorship opportunities for the organisation’s programmes, properties and activities.
Candidates should therefore be comfortable developing commercial partnerships, negotiating with stakeholders and identifying opportunities that can generate value and strengthen the organisation’s reach.
Financial, Risk and Performance Management
The successful candidate will have responsibility for overseeing the financial performance of the marketing and communications department.
This will include developing annual income and expenditure forecasts, managing departmental budgets and monitoring financial allocations.
The Chief Officer will also assess the revenue and return-on-investment implications of marketing campaigns and report directly to the Chief Executive Officer on campaign performance and financial impact.
Risk management will also form part of the position, including brand compliance, reputation management, stock control and team travel safety.
Team Leadership and Market Research
The Chief Officer will lead the marketing and communications team, including recruiting, managing, mentoring and developing staff while ensuring that departmental objectives and daily outputs are achieved.
The position will also involve commissioning market research, surveys and consumer insight studies to assess brand health, public awareness and perceptions of Proudly South African.
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate operational flexibility and undertake additional responsibilities where necessary to support the organisation’s evolving priorities.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications or a related qualification.
- A postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
- 10 to 15 years of relevant professional experience.
- At least 5 years of experience at Executive or Senior Management strategic level.
- Experience working within marketing and communications departments in both the private and public sectors will be advantageous.
- A valid driver’s licence.
- Own vehicle and willingness to travel.
