Trócaire is seeking an experienced Business Development and Grants Manager to join its senior leadership team in Nairobi, Kenya. This full-time, on-site opportunity is ideal for grant management and resource mobilization professionals with a strong track record of securing institutional funding from major international donors.

The successful candidate will lead business development, donor engagement, proposal development, grants management, and compliance for Trócaire’s Somalia country programme while supporting strategic partnerships across humanitarian and development sectors.

About the Somalia Programme

Trócaire has been working in Somalia since the early 1990s, delivering programmes in health, nutrition, resilience, protection, humanitarian response, and education in emergencies. The organization primarily implements projects directly while collaborating with selected local partners.

The programme operates mainly in the Gedo region, with five operational centres and a representation office in Mogadishu.

Position Overview

As a member of the Senior Management Team, the Business Development and Grants Manager will be responsible for expanding and diversifying Trócaire’s funding portfolio. The role reports directly to the Country Director and supervises a Grants and Compliance Officer.

The successful candidate will identify new funding opportunities, strengthen donor relationships, coordinate high-quality grant proposals, oversee compliance with donor requirements, and support effective project implementation and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

The Business Development and Grants Manager will lead several strategic functions, including:

Institutional Funding Strategy

  • Develop and implement the country institutional funding strategy.
  • Identify and map potential institutional donors and funding opportunities.
  • Maintain an up-to-date donor database and funding pipeline.
  • Monitor donor priorities, policies, and upcoming funding calls.

Business Development and Resource Mobilization

  • Lead the development of concept notes and full grant proposals.
  • Secure funding from institutional donors, embassies, UN agencies, trusts, and foundations.
  • Build and strengthen strategic relationships with existing and prospective donors.
  • Collaborate closely with Trócaire’s Head Office and regional funding teams.

Grants Management and Compliance

  • Coordinate grant inception, review, and close-out meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with donor contracts and reporting requirements.
  • Support programme and finance teams in grant financial management.
  • Maintain grant documentation within Salesforce and organizational systems.

Strategic Leadership

  • Contribute to organizational planning, learning, and funding workshops.
  • Develop communication materials, capacity statements, and donor visibility documents.
  • Represent Trócaire in donor coordination meetings and external partnerships.
  • Deputize for the Country Director when required.

Essential Requirements

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

Education

  • Graduate qualification in Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Professional Experience

  • At least two years of experience writing successful proposals and donor reports.
  • Demonstrated success securing institutional grants from major international donors.
  • Experience managing grants funded by organizations such as European Union, Irish Aid, USAID, DFID/FCDO, United Nations agencies, Comic Relief, Big Lottery Fund, or other international trusts and foundations.

Technical Skills

  • Excellent English writing and editing skills.
  • Strong budgeting and financial analysis abilities.
  • Experience using logical frameworks for project planning, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
  • Outstanding communication, negotiation, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
