International Alert is inviting applications for a Videography Consultancy to document compelling impact stories from its climate, conflict, and gender equality peacebuilding project in the Turkana–Omo borderlands of Kenya and Ethiopia. This short-term consultancy offers experienced visual storytellers an opportunity to produce high-quality documentary content that highlights the transformative impact of community-led peacebuilding initiatives in one of East Africa’s most climate-vulnerable regions.
The consultancy will run for 18 working days between 7 October and 17 November 2026, with International Alert covering travel, accommodation, and other logistical costs. The successful consultant will work closely with project teams and local communities while adhering to safeguarding, informed consent, and do-no-harm principles throughout the assignment.
About the Project
The consultancy forms part of the project titled “Addressing the Intersection of Climate, Conflict and Gender Equality in the Turkana–Omo Borderlands.”
The initiative seeks to strengthen gender-inclusive local institutions that manage transboundary conflicts driven by climate-related challenges affecting communities living along the Kenya–Ethiopia border. Increasing droughts, resource scarcity, and environmental pressures have intensified competition over land and water, making peacebuilding and inclusive governance essential for sustainable development.
The project is implemented across several strategic cross-border corridors, including:
- Turkana–Dassanech
- Turkana–Nyangatom
- Dassanech–Nyangatom
Through collaboration with local communities, women’s groups, traditional leaders, and cross-border institutions, the programme promotes peaceful conflict resolution, climate resilience, and greater participation of women in local governance structures.
Consultancy Responsibilities
International Alert is seeking an experienced videographer capable of collecting authentic, human-centred stories that demonstrate the project’s impact on individuals and communities.
The consultant will be responsible for:
- Planning and filming documentary-style impact stories.
- Conducting interviews with community members and project participants.
- Capturing high-quality video and audio across multiple project locations.
- Producing professionally edited mini-documentaries and storytelling content.
- Working ethically with vulnerable populations through informed consent procedures.
- Ensuring all visual content aligns with safeguarding and do-no-harm standards.
- Collaborating with International Alert staff during field production and post-production.
The assignment requires strong storytelling abilities as well as technical excellence in filming, editing, and documentary production.
Assignment Duration and Location
The consultancy will be delivered over 18 working days, excluding travel days, between 7 October and 17 November 2026.
Fieldwork will take place in the Turkana–Omo borderlands, primarily within Turkana County in Kenya and cross-border project corridors connecting communities in northern Kenya and southern Ethiopia.
Due to the vast geographical area and the logistical complexities of working in remote border regions, the timeline has been designed to accommodate travel, security considerations, and potential weather-related delays.
Required Application Documents
Interested consultants must submit both a technical and financial proposal demonstrating their suitability for the assignment.
Applications should include:
- Curriculum Vitae highlighting relevant videography and documentary experience.
- Portfolio containing links to two or three examples of similar work, such as impact stories or mini-documentaries.
- Technical Proposal of approximately two to three pages outlining understanding of the assignment, proposed methodology, and draft work plan.
- Financial Proposal with a detailed budget, including daily professional rates and production costs. Travel and accommodation should not be included, as these will be covered by International Alert.
- References providing contact details for at least two previous clients for comparable assignments.
Strong portfolios demonstrating experience in humanitarian, development, peacebuilding, or community storytelling projects will be particularly valuable.
